Long-distance move from London, Greater London to London, Greater London

Do not use!

Do not use!  I used Am Removals for simple 1 bedroom move.  They showed up late, didn't provide the number of people they quoted for, the move lasted until midnight (and would have been longer if I hadn't pitched in myself!), they attempted to charge me additional money due to the length of the move (despite their late arrival and inadequate resources) and they invented a bogus £250 "processing fee" to claim on their insurance policy.
I don't think they are actually insured and I'm sure it's no coincidence that the total "additional services" charge and "insurance processing fee" add up to exactly the amount I was claiming for damages!
As you will read from many other reviews the end of the road is taking them to court. .

Long-distance move from Reading, Berkshire to London, Greater London

Worse than doing it yourself.

A year ago I required a removal company to move my belongings from one house to another, and so I hired SimplyRemovals (http://simplyremovals-px.rtrk.co.uk/). They were quite expensive but were fantastic, and unfortunately  I believed that all removal companies should be able to do the same quality job but I realised I was wrong when I used AM Removals. The package that AM Removals provided seemed reasonable, tailored nicely for what we needed and Nerija seemed professional so we went with that (and it was the cheapest of six options..). However, the move was much more stressful than if we had hired a van and done it ourselves.
Below is a list of all the problems that we had andI have emailed all of this to Nerija, but they are satisfied that all of this is normal and that the problem is that I expected too much from them. Even if this is the case (it is possible that SimplyRemovals set the bar too high in terms of my expectations) I would never again pay hundreds of pounds for this kind of service, my recommendation to anyone intending to use these guys is to not do so and either pay just a bit more to get a better service from a different removal company or hire a van and do it yourself. Clearly I am not the only person who have had problems with this company and they are surely aware of this, so it seems that they are happy to continue providing inadequate service.
List of issues:
- Delivery truck arrived late and the removal did not finish until 9pm (12 hours for a move is quite ridiculous especially when the terms and conditions required that we had to be with them at all times)
- All timings given to us (disassembling, packing, delivery, reassembling) were overestimated by hours which meant that we had to do a lot of waiting
- Removal men did not let us leave the premises in the evening to get dinner, eventually they let us go but until then we were forced to remain in the house for 3-4 hours watching them unload the van. I think this is particularly bad considering that one of the main reasons we paid for the removal company was so that it would free up our time.
- The quality of the service was very poor, there was no organisation as boxes and furniture were brought in with no particular strategy and items from different rooms were placed in the same boxes. Once they had left at 9pm we were left with a mess which was very difficult to re-sort (Simplyremovals had used a great strategy of packing all boxes first then furniture, and upon arrival to the new house got all the furniture done then unpacked boxes).
-  At both properties there were no floor guards or protective sheets put down (the result of which is muddy carpets at both ends, we now have had to pay for professional carpet cleaning at the previous property which cost us £125)
- Lamp, jewellery stand and ceiling light bulb was broken (I have just received confirmation that they will not be reimbursing us).
- BBQ was disassembled taken to the new property and left outside without reassembling and without putting the waterproof cover back on. Screws are missing and we will not be reimbursed for this.
- Several items such as bath mats, door mats and wall ornament were left at the previous property, we now have to travel back to the property to collect these items
-  The van was not checked once all boxes had been unloaded, I checked the van myself and even though one of the removal men repeatedly told me that everything had been unloaded and was rushing me to get out of the van I eventually found a pair of my gloves on the floor.
- The quotation I was given included wardrobe boxes but these were not included in the service.
- We had to unpack several boxes ourselves because they wanted them back.  .

Long-distance move from Guildford, Surrey to Luton, Bedfordshire

Great value for money.

I moved from Guildford to Luton through AM removals. I had excellent service through them. The staff were, polite and considerate. It was a pack and move service. I realized that I had more items than what I specified at the time of obtaining the quote. Fortunately the removal vehicle was large enough and the movers did not complain about additional items. The packing time was less than my expectation.
The delivery guys put all the items in the correct locations at the new place with the exception of one small item. There were no damages or rough handling of items. I particularly found the rates very competitive. .

Despicable management.

I'm not going to go into too much detail because I don't think it's necessary. My advice is don't touch this dishonest, money grabbing firm. They may be cheap but you're highly unlikely to pay the original quote they give you. In my case they under-estimated the van size I needed and then told me it wasn't their fault. The manager Waseem didn't appear to understand the basics of a house move as he seemed shocked that I didn't know when I would be getting the keys. He then used this to tell me he'd be charging for waiting time. Believe it or not this idiot and his colleagues booked my move in, knowing they had a 2pm appointment miles away. I got the keys to my new property at 3.45pm. Absolutely atrocious, don't use them. Waseem - you are a nasty individual and I plan to write many more poor reviews about your company in the vain hope you might actually give a damn one day.

Official company response

Dear Customer, all removal companies charge waiting charges. It is in no way to earn extra money: company pays hourly rates to their employees. So, how it is possible for the customer to expect removal company to wait free of charge. Moreover, we did wait for several hours & charges NOT even a penny from you. Our company got policy to wait for first 30min free of charge. We manage not to apply waiting charges to customers who request it from us in advance.
The second van was supplied on the day at a short notice. It was only needed as you failed to disclose the amount of household items to be moved.
It is always the best to disclose all the information to the surveyor. Understating & trying to acquire a cheaper removal quotation does not work. It only causes unnecessary stress to both parts on the day.
We would really appreciate if next time you would not choose abusive language directly addresses to our employees.

Long-distance move from London, Greater London to Edinburgh, Midlothian

I had to go to court ..

When I won, he thought that denying he owned the company was a way to get out of paying. I assigned the CCJ to a debt collector.
Here are the list of items provided to the court;
1) Proper equipment was not provided:
a. No consideration was given to the main instruction that the two-seat sofa was to be removed via the Juliet-balcony. I had to protest in order to have your staff consider my safety. It is my opinion that you should be investigated under Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
b. Portable wardrobes were not provided and our clothing was thrown into boxes by your staff.
c. Some boxes were loosely taped and arrived opened.
2) The blonde suede sofa-bed was not wrapped and therefore received severe soiling from a lorry tyre and the lorry interior during transport.
3) Damage to wood on furniture as follows:
a. Table 1: Transport scuffs on table edge.
b. Table 2: Transport scuffs on table edge.
c. 2 Seat Sofa (legs): Transport dents on 3 out of 5 of the legs.
d. Bedside tables: dent in front of a drawer
e. Console Table/Dining Table: dent on right leg
f.  Large Chest of Drawers: Shallow abrasions on top made during transport
g. Large TV Stand: Drop damage on two bottom corners, dent in top corner
h. Office Desk: Drop damage in three locations.
i.  Picture: dent on edge of frame
4) A spider-plant and its pot that did not arrive at its destination. Estimated replacement value £50
5) A professional microphone stand was snapped (clean break). Estimated replacement value £50
6) There were three men to take contents out of the London property and only two to carry into the Edinburgh property.  I was therefore forced to partake in heavy lifting and have injured my lower back.
7) Your employees arrived 1.5 hours late on 9/7 causing me to miss one flight to Edinburgh (72.00 GPB). After failure to remove the two-seat sofa, a back-up employee who was sent in to remove the item arrived at 17:45 (4 hours after stated arrival) which caused me to miss the last flight of the evening (113.99 GBP) and subsequently the last train. These two incidents cost a total of 185.99 GBP.
8) Full payment was demanded as a condition of unloading my belongings to the Edinburgh property in the knowledge that my partner and I were not happy with the service provided.

Official company response

Dear Mr Michael Harris, thank you for your comments on the service delivered several years ago. We would also like to add few comments you missed in your review:
- you refused to pay for external elevator hire - the service we suggested you during our surveyor visit. Therefore, it took longer to lift the sofa through the balcony. It was done safely with reasonable care & skills in the end. We understand being a student does not leave you with much extra cash for such services - but if you want it to be done fast & catch a flight you should go for it next time.
- you booked your flight without our knowledge on the day of the move knowing how complicated your move is. As you was getting late for your flight you started abusing our removal & office staff using all the worst language you could find, causing removal guys huge stress & not allowing to do their job properly - they had to rush that resulted in less care being taken in wrapping & packing. Some of the furniture were handled by you just that to finish loading as soon as possible at any cost. As a result of such your actions - damage occurred. Initial agreement was for you to leave the keys with the team & leave for Edinburgh, but you didn't manage to keep this our agreement as well.
- we arrived to Edinburgh 7am & had to wait for 3h to get permission from you to start unloading. You allowed our team to start unloading from 10am. The guys travelled all this way from London & you simply made a laugh of them making them wait for another 3h for no reason - just to get a revenge on missed flights.
- we cleared every single penny you claimed from us in compensation just as a result of us missing the court hearing. It was our mistake not to attend - but as most moving companies we were over-stretched with workload.
- we really hope next time you move you decide not to book flight without informing your moving company in advance & will use external elevator hire. Abusing & rushing movers around will do no good - will end up with poor wrapping & packing. As next time moving company might show up in court & you will end up with no compensation. Best of luck to you!

Long-distance move from Oxford, Oxfordshire to Basingstoke, Hampshire

Move from Newbury to Basingstoke.

We were very impressed with AM Removals.  Moving is such an expensive process, and this was the best removals quote we received (by well over £1500.00).
They were about an hour late to get to us (we actually moved from Newbury to Basingstoke, but these options weren't available when I filled in the pickup and delivery cities), but sent a team of four to pack and move us.
Taking advantage of the same-day packing service was fantastic.

I highly recommend AM Removal Ltd.

I had a very complicated move with a pick up from 3 different places all about a month apart and all went into storage. After several delivery date changes (which was down to me as the completion date changed on my house purchase got moved) all the furniture/boxes were delivered on the same day to the final destination. The team of movers were absolutely brilliant and very accommodating to the delivery date changes.

Great service.

The move was long distant but the men worked well looking after our many boxes and furniture during both the packing and unpacking of the lorry. They worked very hard in 2 long days even when faced with three floors at the new house. Extra boxes were supplied at short notice and all emails replied to promptly. I would definitely recommend the company to anyone thinking of moving.

Great Removal Company.

I needed to find a removal company at a weeks notice. I was recommended to try AM Removal & co from the lady I was buying from. I called and had a quote within an hour. Nerija was excellent and answered all my questions. The chaps turned up on time and immediately started the job. They moved quickly through the house and packed up really well. Very friendly guys and very professional. I would highly recommend this company and if I move again (hopefully not for some time!) I would use them again. Excellent service.

The lads turn up late but not there fault, they left in plenty of time but traffic was awful.  We can only say that these guys were the best really nice people and did a excellent job, nothing was to much trouble. Very professional, They worked very quickly and got the job done on time. They provided dismantle and reasemble in with the price and also wardrope boxes. When we got to our new home, they were just as professional putting boxes and furniture in the right place. There was no damage to any of our furniture. We would definatley recommend this company very reasonable price and such nice people, well done lads.

Do not use this company.

Waseem was the point of contact and quoted for the removal. They turned up on time but only three men in stead of the five as per their quotation, waseem and another man finally turned up some tw2 hours later Later. The packing started well but after 2 hours they started to forget any of the wrapping despite my continual asking. As the loading come to a close 18.00 hours the house was still not emptied, I was asked to pay more money for another can to come the following day. Although I argued that this was there responcabilityi was told by Wassem that I would still have to pay..so I had to capitulate and agree to pay another 150 pounds.
On the unloading I had to pay the balance of the money before they would unload, this I had to pay in cash as there was no way of doing a bank transfer at six o'clock in the evening.. I guess that this is there way of ensuring they always get a cash payment !
When I handed the money over to Wassem..he Left more or less I imidiatly.leaving for me to finish all the unloading. This was a total fiasco, the two younger men spoke little English and could not read the very simple room numbers marked on each box, furniture was dropped, and left in heaps in rooms.
All in all a very unpleasant expirience. And when I contacted the office the next day to ask for the insurance claim forms I was told that I would have to pay the excess of 250 pounds.. So not only do they not give a fig about damaging my property I am supposed to pay out 250 for the pleasure .
I will now be taking legal action to recover my costs to replace/repairs the furnature.
So be warned and keep away from A.M Removals, they are only out to get more money from you and do not keel to their quotation in any regard. Also the receipt you get is not for the actual value you pay to them..something the vat man would be interested in l think.

Fab team and a fab price.

Waseem and his team at AM Removal are fantastic, professional and the most helpful movers I have met. They go out of their way to be accomodating, in our case, picking up from three locations on our move day. Everything was packed professionally - nothing got broken or damaged. They even came back to pick up the boxes once we had unpacked. Communication was superb and the price could not be beat. I will certainly recommend them to others.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

I was going to write a review, but rather than spend even longer reliving my experience with this company, I'll just paste in the email I sent them the day after the move. Dear Sir, Thank you for sending the invoice, which confirms I have paid all monies due. I cannot thank you for your company's service however. Your website says that AM Removals 'Strives for Excellence', and that you provide residential moves which are 'Professional, Fully-Integrated and Cost-Effective'. You still have some striving to do, I fear. For my part, I will strive to tell as many people as possible never to use AM Removal. I will start by writing a negative review of the company, adding to this one (which I dearly wish I'd read before booking you):http://www.removalreviews.co.uk/movingreviews/avoid,-cheap-is-not-always-the-way-to-go-823.. to highlight the extreme lack of: 'Professionalism': sending an unsuitable vehicle, charging me an extra £500 for a belatedly supplied replacement which could actually do the job, and then expecting me to pay this via bank transfer before unloading when the lorry finally arrived at its destination at 1am (after an 8am start), on pain of my goods being seized and 'taken away to storage'. You demanded this even though you were unable to provide an invoice for this extra amount, as I had requested earlier in the day and as is legally required I believe, because 'the office was closed'. Lucky for you I made do with a handwritten receipt from your (blameless) driver, who was as tired and pissed off at the end of the nightmare day as I was. Mind you, he had to then drive back to London from darkest Cumbria, while I had a beer and went to bed, so arguably he got an even worse deal than I did. Fully Integrated-ness: not sure what this means, but if it means the clients helping to load and unload the lorry at either end in an attempt to get things done before the sun rose on a second day of the move, then yes, you're fully integrated. Cost Effectiveness: maybe for you. For me, less so (see 'Professionalism'). Yours, Another Unhappy Customer.

Excellent Service.

Hi,
Very efficient moving team they were very professional and knew exactly what to do to make the move painless. They treated our possessions with great care when loading the truck and loaded it within a short time frame. There were no delays between leaving our old home and reaching the new one approx 2hrs and on reaching our new home everything was placed where we requested. For the service they provided the cost was very reasonable we would must recommend them to our friends or anyone in need of a very efficient and very professional removal firm top notch service.
Thanx guyz you have done great job.

Professional Service.

Just a quick feedback on the service we received from AM Removal. They moved our 3 bedroom content in no time. Professional packers boxed our house, assembled furniture. On the move day loading was smooth & quick. The team managed to arrive to our new house (220 miles away) ahead of us.  Very pleased with such a smooth & professional move. We will definately recommend the company to our friend & family we left behind in London!

Excellent service.

We were moving from London to High Wycome and my wife was pregnant so we needed some help. The guys turned up on time early in the morning and immediately started working through each room in a thorough and logical order. They packed our fragile items very well. They asked what needed to remain in the property and often checked with us to make sure they didn't take anything that shouldn't be moved. They were extremely friendly and even worked around our cat making sure it didn't escape from the house! They went above and beyond what we expected by removing doors off hinges to get our sofa out of the house. They then moved our stuff while we picked up the keys to the new property. They moved all our furniture and boxes into the new property making sure it was in the correct room. All in all it was a great service and I would definitely use them again or recommend them to friends (in fact we have already recommend them to some of our new neighbours who are moving next month). .

Don't use this company.

After getting a number of quotes, my initial reaction to Waseem's 50% discount rate was "not a chance we're using them". Circumstances being what they were (with an equally useless Solicitor) by the time we had an exchange/completion date, none of the other proper companies were available - it can't be worse than doing it ourselves I thought. Perhaps not as bad as doing it ourselves, but only just. AM removals visited our house and quoted for a full packing and moving sevice. On the packing day, they arrived without enough packing tape, no tools and by the end of the day, there was still a lot unpacked, pictures on the walls etc. "don't worry" we were told, the Removal team will finish in the morning. On arrival on the day of the move, they seemed shocked by the state of the packing, even asking "who did you're packing?" - when I replied, "you did", they seemed even more shocked. So, my visions of my family and I having a relatively stress free moving day were shattered - AM removals effectively ended up shoving our unpacked posessions into whatever bags, boxes etc. they could find (they still had no packing tape or tools, I got some tape from the local shop and lent them mine). We also has to "pitch in" to get the job finished, something I thought I'd paid AM removals to do. With the new owners and their professional removal company on the doorstep, bad went to worse, when they told me no more would fit into the lorry. With still a lot to go, "So?" I asked "this is your problem", but no..that was this bunch of cowboys done. The solution? For me to go and hire a van, load and transport what they had left behind myself. I'd like to thank the new owners removal team for helping us finish the packing and loading.. On arrival at our new home, they unpacked, whilst I completed the 75mile round trip to return the van I'd hired and collect my car. Despite taking over 5 hours to load, they'd "unloaded" and gone by the time I got back. Well, I say unloaded, by which I mean dumped all of our posessions in random places, which I fine, assuming I'd actually wanted to have wardrobes in my garage, beds in the sitting room etc. My conversation with the nasty individual Waseem was simply that I'd like you to refund the cost of the van I had to hire due to your inability to do your job properly and the cost of the diesel (a total of £70) - let's put aside the slap stick comedy that is your packing/removal service. His response? "Some things are unforeseeable", "you signed the paperwork" (well, my wife who was dealing with a very tired 2 year old whilst I was returning a van I should never had to have did), "we never made you sign the paperwork" etc etc etc. Waseem - you are a cowboy, you should be ashamed of your business practices, your attitude to your customers and your idea of reasonable customer service is laughable. All I can say is that the people you employ, are hardworking and polite, I just feel sorry for them that they have to work for someone like you and have their hard work undermined by your attitude and inability to do your job properly. Maybe they read these reviews, my words are not aimed at them, but solely at you Wassem as the MD. Whatever you do, don't use this awful company. If it was financally worth it, I'd be pursuing this cowboy through the courts for Breach of Contract (as I'm still looking for the clause in the T&C's where it says "we'll move what we can fit in the inadequate van we send then the rest is over to you"). Waseem, according to your website, you're "Striving for Excellence" - well, believe me, you need to keep striving, my experience with your company is the polar opposite, Instead, I'm going to satisfy myself by reviewing AM removals at any opportunity.

Avoid, cheap is not always the way to go.

I moved a couple of months ago with AM removal. I thought their price was sharp and since I was only moving within the same street and didn't have a lot of stuff, I didn't think it was worth spending on an expensive moving company. I thought the reception and the quoting was fair. I asked for packing materials, 2 guys to help and professional cleaning. When they arrived, there were 3 guys. The youngest was the team leader and the only one who spoke English in an acceptable way. The second one was older, strong but clumsy and had notions of English. The third one was the cleaner and had no knowledge of English at all. The guys were friendly but amateuristic. I had marked all the boxes beforehand, since some stuff was going to my new place and some stuff was going to storage. The split between the 2 went reasonable after a lot of explaining and afterwards, only 2 boxes ended up in the wrong place. The cleaner was extremely slow and looked like he had never cleaned before. On top of that, afterwards, when my landlord checked out the place, there was still dirt in a lot of places. Even though I had just paid AM Removal ca. 120 GBP for 8 (!) hours of professional cleaning in a place that's barely 50 sq m, I had to pay the same amount a second time to my landlord and couldn't argue about it as the place was still not properly cleaned. Because the cleaner was so slow, the other movers had to help out with the cleaning for a while. The second clumsy guy cleaned a large mirror and it was filthier after the clean than before. On top of that, he didn't find better than to go and stand in the middle of a 1.5m wide marble tablet with his ca. 100 kg, while the tablet was only supported on the sides. As you can imagine, the marble tablet broke with a loud bang. I immediately called the manager, who assured me he was going to compensate me for this accident even though they were only insured for goods in transit, not breakage at home. Funnily enough, suddenly the guys started insisting on my cash payment. Since I trusted they would compensate me and I didn't have a choice anyway, I maintained my end of the bargain, paid and even tipped the guys at the end of the day because they looked pretty sad. My landlord priced up the marble tablet to GBP 640, almost 1.5x the cost of my move. Of course, suddenly AM Removals stopped taking my calls or answering my emails. When finally 2 months later (it took my landlord 1 month to get me the cost), I got someone on the phone, they told me they could not compensate me as I didn't declare it on the day, which obviously was a lie. I ended up emailing them and offered them to pay me back GBP 100, as I thought the cost of the breakage was disproportional to the cost of the move and I didn't think they should get away with breaking stuff without any penalty. Obviously also that fell on deaf ears. All in all, a move which should have cost me GBP 450 (incl 8 hours of cleaning), ended up costing me GBP 1,210. Beware of cheap quotes.

Removal with AM Removals.

Negotiations permitted flexibility to include last minute purchases without additional charge. AM arrived early but waited until we were ready. The move included a heavy piano which had to manoeuvred down u-turn on stairs. All items were wrapped in black plastic, blankets or both. The removal van arrived before our taxi did. Payment was requested prior to discharge but AM went ahead while we set up an Internet connection to arrange a transfer.  .

Outstanding Service.

We are very happy with the professionalism of the team. AM Removal helped us with every aspect of our move: arranged parking suspension, delivered packing materials well in advance, etc.. We only ordered fragile packing service - all our fragile items were placed by the team into plastic crates & lidded properly. All bulky items were wrapped into blankets. Not a single item was damaged. The best three removal men we have ever worked with - so much better that our previous companies & very competitive rates. It was pleasant and great experience to move. Thank you so much. Will recommend your team to everyone.

Damage.

They were 1.5 hours late to start the job, they finally arrived and started packing up. So far so good. When we arrived in Guildford, everything was going smoothly until they decided not to remove the legs of the chrome table frame and then it happened. A deep scratch on the woodblock flooring! Not to worry, that is why I used them for the insurance cover very wrong. I sent over an e-mail and photos of the damage and the removal man admitted that they had done the damage and also took photos. I followed it up and was told by Wasif, the owner of AM Removal Ltd. that they would not do anything as the removal guys have denied that they did the damage in the first place. Then Wasif tells me that he has no PI Insurance and then he says in any case that I would have to pay a £250 excess on any claim anyway! Getting absolutely no where with this company with major attitude. I know the pricing was good, but Customer Service is rubbish and Wasifs attitude stinks.

Poor Service.

Do not use this company.  I am having problems getting my deposit back and may have to take them to a small claims court if they don't credit my account soon. I wanted to cancel as my purchase fell through.  I also noticed that there was inconsistency in the quotes they provided me with.  They also delivered 35 boxes and 30 lids instead of 45 boxes and 45 lids!  They accidentally charged me for a packing service as well but did put that right. I have now had an aggressive email from them. I am not impressed.  They are unprofessional and don't appear to be  honest or organised.
